outdoor furniture

we just watched the first two episodes of the TV version of This American Life. my favorite thing about it is that Ira Glass appears at random points, and he's sitting at a desk that is outdoors. like in a field or with mountains in the background. and for some unknown reason, i really like seeing indoor furniture outside. it satisfies a deep and mysterious longing.

a couple of years ago, i was hanging out in brooklyn and went on an epic journey with a few people that involved climbing under a fence, over another fence, through a bunch of lots filled with junked cars, etc. to get to the bank of a river. i imagine the river being the East River, like in that cheesy rainer maria song i like (random tangent: there's a line in that song that says "we will be like divorcees" and i always thought it said "we will be like the dorseys." i was constantly paranoid i was missing some obscure hipster reference.) but i have no idea what river is in Brooklyn, i suck at geography. we drank 40s on some rocks on the bank of the river, it was october, of a late summery type of weekend and good lord i loved that city that night. on this journey, i had the fortune of seeing an entire bedroom set assembled outdoors. just in some sort of alley/lot thing, there was a bed, a nightstand, a small TV, the whole deal. there was nobody around besides my friends and i, and i can still remember exactly what it looked like. perfect.

in other news, my uncle joe who i love dearly refers to Lifetime as the "femnazi channel."
