i lived in JP the year after i graduated college, with three disgusting boys in a four bedroom apartment for $1200/month. they turned the dining room into a video game palace and drove me crazy. one of them had a girlfriend who was teaching abroad in Morocco and came back for a holiday with a severe intestinal disorder. she occupied the bathroom for such long periods of times in such a gross way that at one point i contemplated asking her to just go outside. it was a nice apartment though -- it took up a whole floor of a huge old house with hardwood floors and a lovely porch.
four years later, after grad school and a semi-disastrous year in somerville, i moved back to JP. it was a last minute decision when the person i was supposed to live with decided to stay in his shithole frat house in allston (here's looking at you jay!). my new address was 9 hall street. it was the only place i've ever lived where i woke up with a hangover from staying home.
some memorable things that happened there are as follows:
-we threw a mardi gras party that met the criteria i would use for declaring a party a True Success. 1) there was at least one person there that nobody knew 2) someone arrived after 1am and still had a good time 3) more than one person traveled from a different state to attend the party 4) i woke up in a bed with not one but TWO dear friends
-a random friday night consisted of: a choreographed dance routine to a justin timberlake song, the drawing of "tattoos" in magic marker all over several people and the smearing of said marker on my white down comforter when i fell asleep with set of tattooed lips on my inner wrist like britney spears
-a viewing of Legends of the Fall on comcast on demand
-observing a young lady taking off all of her clothes and changing into new, fancy underwear before going to bed. observed through her window as we sat on our back porch, for many, many nights in a row. nickname: "Pinky" -- she favored a pair of victoria secret underwear with PINK emblazoned across the bum.
9 hall was the last place i lived in boston, a place i lived for a long time and where i don't intend to live again for years, if ever. i don't think i've loved an apartment more than that one, but i was quite grateful to leave it when i did.
