on a side note, i just looked up that poem and found this really funny site that plays horrendous music called "luvz favorite poetry." it's all pretty silly except this line:
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
because obviously i will spend my social security checks on liquor so i relate, and the idea of "summer gloves" is pleasantly old-fashioned.
here are the things i'd like to do when i'm old, except i don't really want to wait until i'm old because then i will be wrinkly and short of breath.
dress like edie sedgwick and develop a taste for martinis:

buy expensive art
use the word "adore" more often
find high heels comfortable
never have fingerprints or scratches on my glasses
know which kinds of wine are good
own a well-trained and sweet dog
live somewhere with hardwood floors and lots of interesting lamps
have different kinds of plants and be able to keep all of them alive
that is all.
