homesweet.

i'm housesitting this week. it reminds me of staying at rhiannon's -- the soap smells good, the furniture is comfortable and the various pieces match, the blankets are fluffy and clean. oh to be a real adult. there is also a dog! he's a belgian shepherd. this isn't an actual photo of him but this is essentially his internet twin:

i have CSI on demand and wine and the neighborhood is quiet and i'm going to sleep for a zillion hours.

we went to boston for work meetings last week & stayed at my parents for a couple of nights. on the way home from the airport, my dad went on and on about his neighbor planting a tree that blocks their kitchen window. i sort of blew it off because he's been engaged in a passive-aggressive feud with the neighbors for years. then in the morning i realized the neighbor had actually planted a tree completely off center from anything else, right up against the stone wall my dad is building, and it was patently obvious she had put it right in front of the window on purpose. i find this both hilarious and sad.

my parents have water that comes from a well. when they first moved to the house they live in, the town water line didn't extend far enough up the street so my dad was like, oh duh let's just dig a well? in any event, there are too many minerals or something in the water and it just smells AWFUL. like old eggs and rust. i can't even tell you. they don't drink it and have instead spent an amount of money on bottled water that i am sure is equal to what it would have cost to bring the town water to the house. my already vile skin disease immediately gets 3-5 times worse the second the water touches me. my parents are immune, or stubborn, or completely insane.

i like house sitting and trying on the idea of actually owning one. i like hardwood floors and track lighting. but then there are the neighbors and the water and the paint colors to contend with.
